Elmira, Ont., is famous for its Maple Syrup Festival and on Thursday the Prince George Spruce Kings announced they're about to transplant one of that city's tall trees.

The Spruce Kings have signed six-foot-four, 205-pound defenceman Adam Brubacher for the 2015-16 season.

Brubacher, 19, comes to Prince George with three seasons of junior B experience playing for the Elmira Sugar Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. Last season he collected 12 goals and 33 assists for 45 points.

"Adam is a big, strong veteran defenceman who is very good in both ends of the ice," said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes, in a team release. "He will provide a lot of stability on the back end for us and will fit in well with an already strong group of returning defencemen. We're fortunate because it's not often that you can add a veteran defenceman with a combination of size, strength and a tremendous offensive upside."

Brubacher attended university this past season and won team awards for combining academics with his hockey skills and was also singled out for his leadership and sportsmanship qualities.

"Adam is also a terrific young man who will fit in well with the core values of our organization," said Hawes,

The Sugar Kings finished first in their division last season with a 33-12-3-0 record and advanced to the Sutherland Cup (Ontario junior B championship) semifinals, losing a seven-game series to the LaSalle Vipers.

The Spruce Kings main training camp starts Aug. 24.
