Lavanna Laass won a pair of bronze medals at the Qubec Open judo tournament in Montral on the weekend.

Laass, who competes out of the Hart Judo Academy, picked up bronze in both the under-21 and senior women -63-kilogram divisions.

Branden Edwards of the Prince George Judo Club finished fifth with a 2-2 record in the U16 -60kg division, while his teammate Kyle Wilkinson was ninth out of 33 competitors in his U18 -60kg class with a 4-2 record.

The Prince George contingent is spending this week at a training camp prior to competing at the Ontario Open in Whitby.

Cougars go cross-country

Isaac Goodrich led the way for the College Heights Cougars at the B.C. high school cross-country running provincial championships Saturday in Victoria.

Goodrich clocked a time of 22 minutes 50 seconds to finish 37th overall out of 235 runners in the senior boys 6.4-kilometre race. Teammate Thomas Cosh was 157th overall with a time of 26:13.

Nathan Tadesse of North Surrey won the provincial title, crossing the line in 20:35.

The five-member Cougars senior girls squad finished 14th out of 22 teams in the 4.3km distance.

Julia Babicz ran to a 50th overall finish out of 225 athletes, posting a time of 17:34.

Ali Schmid was next in 83rd, crossing the line in 18:21, while Sheridan MacArthur was 155th with a time of 19:50. Franzi Rautmann was 157th, clocking 20:02. Kaitlyn Joyce rounded out the Cougars in 189th, posting 21:22.

Hannah Bennison of Vernon secondary won the senior girls title with a time of 15:00.
