Betty Ann Shiels added her name to the Ladies Club Championship trophy for a 14th time Sunday.
When the two-day event teed off Saturday at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club most, if not all, of the 23 women in the field knew it would be a difficult task to beat Shiels.
"I'm a little too realistic to think I could beat Betty Ann, but having said that, I did want to try and give her the best game I could," said Anita Pendergast. "I felt I hung in there for quite a while."
Shiels shot 81 [par 72] Saturday, leading Pendergast by six shots, while shooting 78 on the second day. Pendergast shot 87 and 85 gross, which was reduced to 72 and 71 net for the low net score of the first flight with 142.
"It's the first chance I've had to play with Betty Ann in this format," said Pendergast. "I really enjoyed it and she brought my game up."
The two ladies, along with Lana Ryan who tied Pendergast at 172 gross, played together both days.
"On the front nine, Anita and I were all the way up to hole number seven or so and we were tied," said Shiels. "It was good match play.
"I was really pleased with my games," she added. "It's nice when you can put two good rounds together and win. "Today, I never ever got into trouble and my putting was pretty good - I didn't have any three putts - and saved a few pars. It was a very steady game."
Before claiming the trophy on the weekend, Shiels and Kathy Stevens were tied for the most titles.
In the second flight, Patti Montagnon had the low gross score of 184 [93-91] and also claimed the low net score with a 144 [handicap 19]. The third flight was won by Louise Christie with a low gross of 203 [101-102], while Gayle Magrath had the low net of 153 [80-73 with a 26 handicap].
