Seehra wins first bout at nationals

Jag Seehra wasn't about to let his start slow him down.

Jag Seehra wasn't about to let his start slow him down.

The Inner City Boxing Club fighter raced out to an early start in a computer-scored bout against Steve Wilcox of Ontario on Tuesday at the Canadian senior national championships, taking place in Quebec City.

Seehra posted a 9-5 win over Wilcox, who twice has won silver medals and four times claimed national bronze, to take momentum into a matchup with Eric Taylor of Alberta today. The significance is that another win by Seehra will mean he is into the medal round.

Kenny Lally of Inner City will face Quebec champion Frederic Laquerre on Thursday, with the winner of that bout moving on to battle Ahmed Karatella, last year's silver medallist. Lally will have to win three fights to claim gold.

Bob Pegues of Inner City is coaching Team B.C.
