Santa's coming to Otway Nordic Centre

Does Santa Claus know how to ski? Or is he more likely to grab a pair of snowshoes? And will he need Rudoph's red nose to guide him to the biathlon cabin for some hot grog? Those questions and more will be answered Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Does Santa Claus know how to ski?

Or is he more likely to grab a pair of snowshoes?

And will he need Rudoph's red nose to guide him to the biathlon cabin for some hot grog?

Those questions and more will be answered Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Otway Nordic Centre at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club's Santa Ski.

Skiers, snowshoers and walkers can follow a torchlit trail that leads about a kilometre from the lodge into the woods to the cabin, where hot cider, cookies, candy canes and Christmas carollers await the kids.

Everyone is encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the Giving Tree in the Rotary Lodge, upstairs from the rental shop. The donations will be dropped off later at the Salvation Army Food Bank to support less-fortunate families during the Christmas season.

Ski rentals will be available at the rental shop and snowshoes from Stride & Glide Sports will be available for people to try while supplies last, in return for a donation to the Friends of Children charity.

The Caledonia rental shop/office is open daily from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for the duration of the ski season, except on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The washrooms, old cabin and wax room are open every day from 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

The lower trails at Otway will be lit every day from 4:30-9:30 p.m.

The Caledonia Chocolate Race series starts, Sunday, Dec. 19.

Opening day for the club's Jackrabbit kids learn-to-ski program is Jan. 4.
