The Kelowna Rockets are starting to own the Prince George Cougars.
They bit off another piece of the Cats Wednesday night in Kelowna in a convincing 6-2 win -- their fifth win in as many tries this season against Prince George.
Cody Chikie scored two goals for the Rockets, his eighth and ninth of the season, to run the count to 3-0 by the 13-minute mark of the first period.
That spelled the end of the night for Cougars' starting goalie Ty Rimmer, replaced by James Priestner after letting in three goals on nine shots.
Priestner made a couple tough saves toget himself involved in the game but couldn't prevent the Rockets from extending their lead.
A late goal in the first period by Taylor Stefishen cut the Cougars' deficit to 3-1, but late in the second period Prince George minor hockey product Brett Bulmer got to a loose puck and beat Priestner for his 15th goal of the season.
It was Bulmer's 16th point in the past 12 games.
Colton Sissons and Mitchell Callahan made it a rout in the third period. Nick Buonassisi picked up a late goal off a tip-in for the Cougars.
The Cougars outshot Kelowna 32-29.
The loss dropped the Cougars (22-20-2-1) into third place in the tight B.C. Division, one point behind the Rockets (24-20-0-0) and three behind the division-leading Vancouver Giants (22-19-1-4).
The Cougars were without forwards Brett Connolly (knee injury) and Charles Inglis (eye injury).
They continue their roadtrip with games Friday in Vancouver and Saturday in Chilliwack.
