Running back Matt Pike scored five touchdowns to help lead his Kelly Road Roadrunners to a 60-10 victory against the College Heights Cougars in a regular-season double-A match-up in the B.C. High School Football League Friday night at Masich Place.
With both squads low on numbers due to recent injuries, the second meeting of the season between the two teams began the same way the first game did when Pike took the opening kick-off 74 yards down the field for a touchdown.
Pike led the Roadrunners' attack on the ground, rumbling for 203 yards on 13 carries, adding touchdown runs of 27, 6, 23 and 57 yards.
Junior varsity quarterback Garrett Cape, who was called up into senior action for Kelly Road, found receiver Charles Way five times for 84 yards and one touchdown.
Cape also connected with Brett Readman (two receptions, 60 yards and one major) and Sam Nezhinsky for TD passes of 34 and 15 yards respectively.
Cape was successful on 11 of 19 tosses for 179 yards and three touchdowns.
Defensive ends Kyle Hilton (seven tackles) and Way (six tackles and one sack) led the Roadrunners on the other side of the ball. Linebackers Daniel Ethier, Nezhinsky and Pike finished four tackles and one sack each.
Playing defence, Cape forced the only turnover of the night with an interception to go with four tackles.
The high school regular season wraps up Friday night when the Roadrunners host Nechako Valley (Vanderhoof) at 5 p.m. at Masich Place, followed by a 7 p.m. tilt between Duchess Park and PGSS.
