Rimmer shuts door on T-birds

Ty Rimmer can scratch that goose-egg off his list of WHL career shutout achievements.

Ty Rimmer can scratch that goose-egg off his list of WHL career shutout achievements.

In his first start since joining the Prince George Cougars in a trade from Brandon earlier this month, the 18-year goalie made 36 saves to blank the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-0 Friday in Kent, Wash.

Nick Buonassisi scored the only goal the Cats needed as they improved to 8-6-1-0. Buonasssis's power-play goal 13:59 into the third period came seconds after Rimmer stopped Travis Toomey with a shorthanded breakaway save.

Taylor Stefishen added some insurance, scoring on his second crack at the net with 16:24 left on a setup from Buonassissi. Defenceman Martin Marincin assisted on both goals.

The Cougars withstood 6-on-4 pressure late in the game when Cats defenceman Cody Carlson was forced to serve a minor penalty.

Cougar forward Brett Connolly's point streak ended at 14 games.

The Cougars will play their third game in four nights tonight when they face the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick, Wash. The second-place Cats trail first-place Vancouver by three points. Prince George has two games in hand over the Giants.
