Results from high school cross-country provincial championship

There were a couple of top 10 finishes for northern teams at the Subway BC High School Cross Country provincial championship Saturday in Kelowna.

There were a couple of top 10 finishes for northern teams at the Subway BC High School Cross Country provincial championship Saturday in Kelowna.

The girls from Nechako Valley (Vanderhoof) placed fourth with a time of 1:33:42, while the girls from the College Heights Cougars came in eighth out of 31 teams in 1:36:12. Quesnel's Correlieu school placed 28th with a time of 1:46:34.

The Neckako Valley team consisted of: Hilary Desmarais, Cierra Verduzco, Jasmine Funk, Julia Steinbach, Brivee Mueller, Angelene Martens and Kaitlyn Verduzco.

For the Cougars, Sydney Irving led the team, finishing 50th of 280 runners, and was the fastest Prince George runner. Also, on the team were: Julia Babicz (79th); Abby Goodrich (93rd); Carolina Hiller (122nd); Ariel Gilbert (127th) and Sheridan MacArthur (136th).

Correlieu's runners were: Ines Zimmerman; Laura Dunn; Katrina MacLean; Amy Wood and Regan Richert.

On the boys' side, Riley Wallace of NVSS finished 22nd, highest for boys' individual runners from the north, while his teammate Alexander Nemethy was 59th. Wallace had a time of 25:09.85, while Nemethy finished in 26:11.35.

Prince George Secondary runners Austin Bartell finished 68th in a time of 26:27.60, while teammate Josh Hewitt was 104th at 27:11.37. Duchess Park's Liam Stewart was 107th with a time of 27:14.35.

Other runners were: Riley Boucher, NVSS (167 - 28:23.62); Sean Gaiesky, D.P. Todd (182 - 28:40.62); Patrick Harroway NVSS (190 - 28:49.12); Zach Matyas, Duchess Park (198 - 28:59.87); Blake Kingsley NVSS (242 - 30:07.13); Owen Stewart, Duchess Park (257 - 30:56.11); Tristal Buller, NVSS (277 - 32:48.11); Brandon Wich, Duchess Park (280 - 33:23.36) and Robert Underhill, NVSS (283 - 33:57.36).
