Not only did the Prince George Barracudas Swim Club collect the most points at their annual Medical Fall Invitational last weekend, but three of its swimmers set seven new club records.

The Barracudas topped the nine-team field at the Aquatic Centre with 1,895 points, besting Prince Rupert at 733 points. Fort St. John was third with 654 points. Prince George's 89 swimmers achieved 405 personal bests, while 11 members competed in their first meet.

Sava Yungman owns three Barracuda records in the 13-to 14-year-old boys, setting the new standards in the 100-metre individual medley at 1:04 - the old record of 1.06:69 was set in Dec. 1996 by Andrew Sweet. Yungman also broke a pair of records previously held by Sterling King - 27.52 in the 50-metre butterfly (King held the record of 28.72 since Feb. 2010) and 1:00.00 in the 100-metre butterfly, topping King's 1:00.46 record from March 2010.

Haley Black and Danica Ludlow also set their own marks in the 15- to-17-year-old girls category.

Black now holds the club marks in the 100- and 200-metre butterflies, topping Katie Mann's 1:05.32 set Feb. 2011 in the 100-metre distance with a 1:03.43 time, while her 2:21.05 in the 200-metre fly broke Claire Shrimpton's 2:25.38 from March 2011.

Ludlow's records came in the 100- and 200-metre freestyle, topping Mann's records. Ludlow swam the 100 in 59.29, beating Mann's 1:00.33 from Oct. 2009, while in the 200 Ludlow finished in 2:05.82, shaving close to three seconds off the 2:08.02 time swam by Mann in Jan. 2010.

Barracudas' Julie Wing qualified for the provincial swim meet for the first time based on her performance at the Medical event.

The fourth through ninth teams were: Bulkey Valley (531); Williams Lake (285); Chetwynd (259); Terrance (193); Kitimat (190) and Quesnel (182).

Aggregate award winners - individual rankings based on top eight finishes on the weekend - for Barracudas swimmers are: Girls 11/12 - Julie Wing, 1st; Girls 13/14 - Jessa Wing, 1st, Bailey Hardy, 2nd, Patricia Fortier, 3rd; Boys 13/14 - Sava Yungman, 1st, Josiah Binnema, 3rd; Girls 15 and over - Danica Ludlow, 1st, Haley Black, 2nd; Boys 15 and over - Sterling King 1st, Harrison Lagzdin 3rd.

The next meet for 30 of the Barracuda swimmers is the Kamloops Ice Classic from Dec. 9 to 11. The same weekend will also see Ludlow, Black and King heading to Oregon as part of Swim BC's provincial team, coached by Jerzy Partyka, to take part in the Paul Bergen Jr. International.
