The Cariboo Cougars went undefeated in four pre-season games in Kelowna on the weekend as they tuned up for the 2014-15 regular season of the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League.
"To go in and win those hockey games - all the guys showed they can compete at that level and it's always good for us to have to make some hard decisions [about who makes the team]," said co-coach Bryan MacLean. "We're still kind of waiting for the junior camps to finish and we want to be patient with the process."
The squad is currently carrying 23 players and needs to be trimmed to 20 by Sept. 15.
Colton Thomas, Chase Dubois and Mitchell Williams all scored in the Cats' 3-3 tie against the Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday.
Williams notched a pair of goals in the Cougars' 9-3 victory against the Thompson Blazers Saturday afternoon. Alex Hanson, Keith Redden, Thomas, Brendan Moore, Todd Bredo, Myles Mattila and Darren Hards each added singles.
Redden fired a hat trick in the Cougars' 5-2 win against the Vancouver North East Chiefs Saturday morning. Hards and Hanson also tallied single goals.
Goalie Jake Sweet didn't allow a goal in his half of the game, while Griffen Outhouse made 15 of 17 saves in his time between the pipes.
Williams scored twice to lead the Cougars to a 3-1 win against the Kootenay Ice on Friday. Mattila also added a single and Outhouse was strong in net.
The Cougars start their regular season at home Sept. 20 in a two-game set against the Valley West Hawks.
