Nico Myatovic of Prince George scored the game-winning goal in Game 1 of the WHL Western Conference final Friday in Seattle.

Two more wins.

That’s all that separates Nico Myatovic and the Seattle Thunderbirds from a return trip to the WHL championship series.

The T-birds took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference championship series against the Kamloops Blazers when they fought off a 3-1 deficit in the second period and beat the Blazers 4-3 in overtime in Game 2 Saturday in Kent, Wash.

Defenceman Jeremy Hanzel snuck a point shot through in screen in front of Blazer goalie Dylan Ernst to end it, 6:21 into overtime.

On Friday, Myatovic fired the game-winning goal in 5-1 Game 1 victory and the 18-year-old from Prince George was named the game’s third star.

In 10 games this postseason, Mytatovic has scored two goals and has one assist.

That series resumes Tuesday night in Kamloops, with Game 4 to follow on Thursday. Game 5, if needed, would be played Saturday in Kent.

Last year the T-birds were the surprise of the WHL playoffs when they advanced to the WHL final, which they lost in a six-game series to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference championship,  the Winnipeg ICE are up two games to none against the Saskatoon Blades, with Game 3 set for Tuesday in Saskatoon. Game 4 of that series will be played on Wednesday.
