Coming off a two home-run game Tuesday, Jared Young of Prince George is hitting .412 in his last 10 games for the triple-A Iowa Cubs.

Two home runs in one game.

In baseball, no matter what league it is, that’s a big deal.

In Jared Young’s case, he did it for the second time this season, playing for the triple-A Iowa Cubs, Chicago’s top farm team, in a game Tuesday against the Indianapolis Indians.

Hitting fifth in the order as the designated hitter, Young’s eighth-inning two-run blast over the centre field wall in Des Moines was his ninth home run of the season and it improved his batting average to .313.

He also clubbed a solo shot to start the fifth inning and get Iowa on the scoreboard. They ended up losing 7-4.

Young also posted a two-home run game on April 27, when he went back-to-back against the Louisville Bats in what turned into an 18-16 Iowa win.

The 27-year-old Prince George native is now the I-Cubs’ hottest hitter.

In his past 10 games, his batting average has soared to .412. In 38 at-bats over that span, he’s had four home runs, two doubles, drove in 12 runs and has walked 10 times.

If he keeps up that torrid pace it could be only a matter of time before the Chicago Cubs give him another shot at playing for them.

Last September, Young became the first-ever Prince George player to compete in the major leagues when he got called up to Chicago.

On Sept. 16, with his parents Randy and Dana, brother Tanner and a group of friends from Prince George watching his MLB debut in the stands at Wrigley Field, Young doubled in the eighth inning against the Colorado Rockies for his first career hit.

He went on to play six games for Chicago and had five hits for a .263 average.
