Nikki Kassel of Prince George races to a silver medal in the women's 45-49-year-old women's 15 km classic at the Masters World Cup in Seefeld, Austria.

Nikki Kassel still knows the way to the medal podium at the Masters World Cup cross-country ski championships.

After three years of pandemic travel restrictions and four years after she dominated the 45-49-year-old women’s class at the 2019 World Cup in Norway, Kassel raced to three silver medals at this year’s masters event in Seefeld, Austria.

In her first event on Sunday, the 49-year-old Prince George nurse raced to a second-place finish in the seven kilometre freestyle. Kassel clocked 21:26.1 on the mountainous course, finishing two minutes off the gold-medal pace of Sigrid Mutscheller of Germany.

Then on Monday, in the 15km classic, Kassel won her second silver medal in 55:55.1, just 18.8 seconds behind race winner Catrin Ingvarsson of Sweden.

In the relays on Wednesday, Kassel teamed up with Tobi Henderson, Cathryn Rowley and Michelle Wolfe to finish second, 40.3 seconds behind the gold medalists from the United States who completed the course in 47:22.8.

Kassel wrapped up her World Cup Thursday with a sixth-place result with a time of 1:00:57.8 in the 20 km freestyle event.

In 2019, in Beitstolen, Norway, Kassel’s medal haul included two gold and two silver.

The 2023 World Cup concludes Friday with the long distance classic technique event.
