What started in 2004 when the College Heights Cougars played the Duchess Park in the first P.G. Bowl to revive high school football in the city after a 33-year absence, the Northern Football Conference now involves six varsity teams from Prince George, Quesnel and Vanderhoof. This fall, a five-team junior varsity program has been added to the high school mix. Following is a chart of growth of the league, with P.G. Bowl championship game results over the years in parenthesis:

2004 -- Inaugural P.G. Bowl (College Heights 2 Duchess Park 0)

2005 -- PGSS and Kelly Road join league (College Heights 9 Duchess Park 8 in OT)

2006 -- Switch to a fall season, Kelly Road drops out, D.P. Todd joins (College Heights 14 Duchess Park 7)

2007 -- Kelly Road back in, Nechako Valley, Correlieu join (Duchess Park 2 College Heights 0)

2008 -- Northern Football League become affiliated with B.C. High School Football Association, eligible for Tier 2 provincial championship (Nechako Valley 31 College Heights 14)

2009 -- Northern Football Conference formed, league switches to four-down American rules, D.P. Todd folds (Kelly Road 33 Correlieu 6)

2010 -- (Prince George Polars 26 Nechako Valley Vikings 19 in OT)

2011 -- Junior varsity city league forms.
