Nigel McInnis's rink of third Wanda Johnson; second Jason Dalio; and lead Erin Young came out on top in Smithers in the region 5 and 6 playdowns and will head to

Nanaimo from March 15 to 18 for the 2012 Williams Moving & Storage BC Mixed Curling

championship.

In a best-of-three with Travis Bernhardt, the McInnis' rink earned a 9-1 win in the third game with steals of one in the fourth, fifth and seventh ends and a steal of two in the sixth

before Bernhardt called it quits.

Bernhardt forced the tiebreaker with a 10-6 win in the second game, leading 8-3 after six ends. He gave up three in the seventh, stealing singles in the next two ends. In the opener McInnis scored five in the second end on the way to a 10-3 win.

In the men's masters region 5 and 6 playdowns at the Quesnel Curling Club it was Alex Coffey skipping his team of third Jim Spinks; second Steve Holmes; and lead Bob Johnston to victory. Team Coffey will represent the region at the 2012 B.C. Master Curling

Championship in Grand Forks, March 1 to 4.

The Canadian Direct Insurance B.C. Men's Curling Championship gets underway today at the Parksville Curling Club.

The final is on Sunday with the winner advancing to the Tim Hortons' Brier Canadian Men's Curling Championship in Saskatoon, March 3 to 11.

The B.C. championship features 16 teams with the northern region represented by skip Ron Vanderstar of the Smithers Curling Club.

Other team members include third Lyle Hensrud of Mackenzie; second Wade Eberle of Prince George and lead Leonard Vanderstar of Smithers.
