The Prince George Cougars have named defenceman Hudson Thornton as the 2023/24 season team captain.
Thornton, 20, is entering his fourth and final season with Prince George in the Western Hockey League.
“It’s an absolute honour,” said Thornton. “You look in our room and there are so many good leaders and so many guys who could have worn the C this year. It’s a privilege to wear it this year, an honour I don’t take lightly, and something I’m looking forward to.”
Thornton will play his first game as the team’s captain tonight in Victoria when the Cougars visit the Royals.
The alternate captains will be Riley Heidt, Zac Funk, and Koehn Ziemmer.
Heidt rejoined the Cougars this week from the Minnesota Wild NHL camp.
Ziemmer is still with the Los Angeles Kings and is expected to be in their lineup tonight when they play the Ducks in Anaheim.
