Polars win Trojan Wars

It was a perfect weekend for the Prince George Secondary Polars' boys basketball team. The Polars completed a 3-0 weekend at the Trojan Warriors 2012 tournament at D.P.

It was a perfect weekend for the Prince George Secondary Polars' boys basketball team.

The Polars completed a 3-0 weekend at the Trojan Warriors 2012 tournament at D.P. Todd Secondary on Saturday with an 87-74 victory over the Correlieu Clan from Quesnel.

Sager Sandhu of the Polars and the Clan's Amrit Sekhon put on basketball clinics in the final each scoring 30 points for their teams, while Tyson Plain added 26 for PGSS and Ian Pepper notched 13 for the Clan.

The Polars opened the tournament Friday with an 86-55 win over the host Trojans and then knocked off Nechako Valley Secondary Vikings (Vanderhoof) 54-46 in the semifinal of the eight-team event.

Sandhu earned tournament MVP honours, while Sekhon was named to the first all-star team. Other first-team all-stars were: Nolan Hanson, CHSS Cougars; Josh Horlings, Bulkley Valley Christian; Dax Klea, D.P. Todd; and Kaston Mckee, Vanderhoof.

Second team selections were: Luke Holmes, Duchess Park; Marcus Mckay, Caledonia; Riley Wallace, Vanderhoof; Plain, PGSS; and Pepper, Correlieu.

After the Polars and Clan the final positions for the teams were: Vikings, Caledonia, Duchess Park, D.P. Todd, College Heights and BVC.
