Polars' win G.P. basketball tournament

The senior girls basketball team at Prince George Secondary tipped off their season by winning the gold medal at a 16-team tournament held at Grande Prairie Regional College last weekend.

The senior girls basketball team at Prince George Secondary tipped off their season by winning the gold medal at a 16-team tournament held at Grande Prairie Regional College last weekend.

In the final the Polars beat Grande Prairie Composite High School 44-34 with Mavia Nijjer selected as the MVP of the tournament. In the semifinal, the Polars beat Fairview 61-35 with Nijjer putting up 22 points.

PGSS started the tournament with a 71-70 overtime win over Edson's Holy Redeemer and then beat Peace River 67-35. Kelsey Videgain led the Polars over Peace River with 12 points.

The Polars' boys team finished second in Grande Prairie, losing 56-55 to Beaverlodge in the final.

The girls are at D.P. Todd this weekend for the annual senior girls Icebreaker event.
