It took the PGSS Polars less than 15 minutes to do what no one else has done this season.
The senior boys football team from PGSS scored a touchdown Thursday midway through the first quarter at Masich Place Stadium in B.C. high school action, which was the first points the Duchess Park Condors allowed in five games this season.
PGSS added another touchdown in the second quarter to trail the Condors 24-14 at half time. The game was still in progress at press time.
The Condors (4-0) opened the scoring on their first drive of the game after Josh Hughson returned the opening kickoff 20 yards to inside the Polars' 45 yard line. A few plays later running back Brendan Moreau took a handoff from Condors' quarterback Rylan Matters and ran 10 yards for the 6-0 lead.
PGSS fumbled their first possession on the line of scrimmage, but the Condors couldn't capitalize.
But, the Polars marched downfield - with a highlight reel catch and run by receiver Eric Irving accounting for much of the yards on the drive - to the Duchess Park five-yard line. After a face-masking penalty on the Condors, PGSS quarterback Tyson Plain ran the quarterback sneak 2.5 yards for the major, giving his team a 7-6 advantage.
Hughson put the Condors back on top 12-7 on the final play of the first quarter, running the ball from the five-yard line.
The Condors made it 18-7 early in the second quarter when Dhalathan Kandasamy ran the ball into the end zone.
Plain struck again for another short rushing touchdown for the Polars after marching his club down field to the Duchess Park five. The Polars added the single to trail 18-14.
With three minutes left in the half, Duchess Park drove down field to the Polars five-yard line, where team leader Montell Lindgren caught a pass from Matters to put his team up 24-14.
LATE START: The senior game started more than 30 minutes late due to the junior football game on the adjacent field running late. The pads on the goal posts were being shared and a couple of the referees where working both games.
The junior Kelly Road Roadrunners blanked the Condors 32-0.
TONIGHT: The seniors from Nechako Valley (Vanderhoff) face off against Correlieu (Quesnel) tonight at Masich Stadium at 5 p.m., with the Kelly Road and College Heights Cougars take to the field at 7 p.m.
