Another weekend, another win for the Prince George secondary Polars senior girls basketball team.
The Polars now sport a 16-0 season record after capturing the championship at the Nechako Valley senior girls tournament on the weekend. It was a battle between a couple of Prince George schools in the final in Vanderhoof, as the Polars knocked off the top-ranked B.C. team in single A basketball, the Cedars Christian Eagles 60-41. Mavia Nijjer led the Polars with 30 points while Kayla Gordon had 16 points for the Eagles.
PGSS opened the tournament Friday wit a 70-38 win over Bulkley Valley Christian school as Sukhpreet Buttar and Nijjar each contributed 12 points in the win.
In the semifinal, the Polars beat the NVSS Vikings 54-47 behind Nijjer's 21 points and Emily Aase's 12 points. In the other semifinal, the Eagles beat the College Heights Cougars.
The Cougars finished in fourth place while the Duchess Park Condors were fifth.
Both the Cougars and Condors senior girls teams will join the Polars next weekend in Kamloops where they'll take part in the Sahali Sabres Invitational, featuring several top 10 double-A teams.
