The Prince George Secondary Polars' senior girls volleyball team couldn't maintain momentum in their playoff game against South Kamloops on Saturday and saw their chances of a wild card berth into the quad-A provincial championship this weekend turfed.
After finishing first in round-robin play at the final qualifier in Abbotsford the Polars fell in five sets to the Kamloops 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 17-25 and 9-15). The Polars were up 8-6 in the final set when they switched sides.
Allan Tong, coach of the Polars, said the girls passing attack wasn't good enough.
South Kamloops and Oak Bay earned the wild card berths.
For the five Polars in Grade 12 it was their final high school volleyball weekend: Shaunyce Gray, Brooklyn Seemann, Erika Morris, Marissa Turner and Harshika Sangha.
The volleyball provincial championships are hosted around British Columbia this weekend, including Prince George where 17 single-A girls teams will vie for top spot in the province Dec. 1 to 3. The Cedars Christian Eagles are the North Central representative.
Other Prince George teams still competing include: the single-A Cedars Christian boys; double-A College Heights Cougars and Duchess Park Condors; and triple-A Kelly Road Roadrunners will all be in Kelowna from Dec. 1 to 3. The triple-A Condors' senior girls head to Parksville, while the double-A CHSS Cougars will be in Langley this weekend.
