Pisces want a piece of provincial swim action

It's blazing hot outside but the pool will be cool.

Cool enough to incite a school of Prince George Pisces Swim Club members to move quickly in the water.

They will get their chance to shift into racing mode the next two days at the Prince George Aquatic Centre, where the Pisces club is hosting a B.C. Summer Swim Association regional meet.

The lure of a spot on the starting blocks at the BCSSA provincial championships Aug. 14-20 in Kamloops has attracted 117 swimmers to the meet, including 32 Pisces, 37 from Dawson Creek, 20 form Mackenzie, 19 from Quesnel and nine from Fort St. John.

"The swimmers have to finish first, second or third in their event final Saturday and Sunday afternoon to qualify for provincials in two weeks," said Pisces vice-president Bob Lees.

The meet is geared towards younger swimmers but Less says there will be some adults trying to beat the clock.

"A lot of the coaches swim in Division 8 but the majority of the kids are 15-and-under," Lees said.

The meet starts today at 8 a.m. and wraps up for the day at about 3 p.m.

Sunday's races will be on from 8 a.m. until about 2 p.m.
