It's still a bit chilly for shorts but golfers at Pine Valley Golf Centre have been getting into the swing of the new season. The course opened on Saturday.

After a cool spring, Pine Valley Golf Centre opened for the season Saturday and business on the 18-hole Par 3 course was brisk.

“You’ve got to be a golfer to understand when the first one opens up, everyone wants to play,” said Pine Valley assistant manager Marlene Dallyn. “It’s been very busy. The course is a little bit wet in the shady areas but it’s good.”

The course opens daily at 9 a.m. and the last tee-time of the day is 5:30 p.m. until the days get longer.

Across Massey Drive from Pine Valley, Prince George Golf and Curling Club projects April 28 as opening day. Pro shop manager Claude Bertoli said the driving range is expected to open as soon as the contractor reinstalls the roof of the facility.

Aspen Grove still has quite a bit of snow cover and the plan is to open the first week of May. Aspen spokesperson Jen Bradner says golfers should watch the website for pop-up notices to find out exactly when they can get on the course and driving range.

At Aberdeen Glen, the weekend wind melted much of the snow but with overnight temperatures still dipping below freezing, the wait continues for golfers. Pro shop manager Darlene Walker said the course is targeting the first week of May for opening.

The 20-bay driving range at Aberdeen will open for the season Wednesday and you can blast away from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. Those hours will extend from dawn to dusk once the summer season kicks in.

Alder Hills, the Par 3 course east of the airport, is still closed for the season, but the driving range has been open for three weeks.

The Links of Maggie May near Shelley won’t be re-opening after 22 years of operation.
