In an attempt to encourage reading the Prince George Youth Soccer Association has plans to hand out free books to its players.

When the outdoor season kicks off May 5 at Rotary Soccer Field there will be a tent set up each Saturday for players to pick up and exchange books before or after games. The PGYSA is looking for people to donate used books for others to enjoy in order to create an inventory.

Players can bring their used books along when they register for the new season which runs until March 4.

There are about 2,500 players scheduled to have games at the soccer field each Saturday. The book exchange is just one of the events the PGYSA has played for "Soccer Saturdays" during the outdoor season.

"PGYSA's goal is to provide players with the tools they need to develop as soccer players, but also engage in partnerships to ensure they are able to work on other important skills as well including reading," said PGYSA executive director Len McNamara in a news release.
