Prince George's Seb Lloyd had the only goal as Canada West earned a 1-0 semifinal win over Canada East on Friday, which will allow them to defend their gold medal at the 2012 World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia.
The 18-year-old former member of the BCMML Cariboo Cougars notched a goal early in the second period to give Canada West the advantage while Jonah Imoo stopped all 17 shots he faced for the shutout. Charlie Finn made 23 saves in the Canada East net.
Canada East will play Switzerland on Saturday (3:30 p.m. PST) for the bronze medal while Canada West - winners of the tournament last year in Langley - go for gold against the United States on Sunday (3:30 p.m. PST). The U.S. beat Switzerland 7-4 in the other semifinal.
