The team of Jasen Florell, Iain MacRitchie, Chito Tecson, Paul Wilson, Bob Piner and Aaron Middlemiss bowled to bronze.
At the Coastal Insurance Provincial Open five-pin championships, Florell and his Zone 8 mates nosed into the four-team stepladder playoffs and defeated third-seeded Vancouver Island in their first match. But, their run at gold was halted in their next game when they fell to second-ranked Okanagan, a group coached by Prince George's Kim Chadwick. In the final, the Okanagan had to beat Fraser Valley South twice but was defeated in the first game.
Florell, with an overall average of 274, was one of five players recognized as a tournament all-star.
In mixed competition, Zone 8 was represented by P.G. players Leo Durau, Ryan Borne, Bob Wilson, Rhonda Meise, Dawn Gunderson and Debbie Janzen. They missed playoffs and finished fifth overall. In the championship match, the top-ranked Okanagan -- a team coached by P.G. resident Gord Snow -- beat Fraser Valley North.
In singles play, Tecson made it to the stepladder playoffs but lost 229-199 to Dan Smith in his first game and settled for fifth place. Smith was then eliminated by Tony Essar, who in turn defeated Nick Uttley. In the final, Essar, from Fraser Valley North, fell to top-ranked Mike Warren of Fraser Valley South 279-174.
In women's singles, no Prince George player advanced to playoffs. In the championship match, Victoria Dacosta of Fraser Valley South downed North West's Sherry Lopushinsky 277-223.
