Kenny Lally goes for his fifth national gold-medal today at the at the 2012 Canadian National (Senior) Elite Championship in Nova Scotia. Lally was up against Quebec's Samuel Robichon in the 52-kilogram weight class.
The Prince George product is the defending national champion and opened the week long event with a points victory Wednesday over John Charlton of Ontario. Lally's teammate at the Prince George Inner City Boxing Club, Jag Seehra, will return home with a bronze medal after falling 21-15 to Ontario's provincial champion Josh O'Reilly in the men's light 60-kilogram class Thursday.
Seehra began the competition Tuesday with a points win over Ontario's Mark Smither.
Thomas Spiers of the Prince George Spruce Capital Boxing Club will also battle for gold today in the men's light heavy 81-kilogram class against national champion Jonathan Savard of Quebec. Spiers defeated Alberta's Stephen MacGillivary 26-23 in his opening bout Tuesday before getting by Ontario's Dana Hassan on points and Manitoba's national champion Andrew Gardiner 22-18.
Saturday's gold-medal bouts will happen between 9:30 a.m. and noon British Columbia time with Lally up early in the day and Spiers a couple hours later.
The bronze medal Seehra won earned him a place at the final Canadian boxing team selections in February in Quebec.
