Forward Matteo Danis, 20, was selected in Wednesday's WHL expansion draft from the Prince George Cougars and will join the Penticton Vees.

Matteo Danis has played his last game for the Prince George Cougars.

The 20-year-old forward was among the 22 players the Penticton Vees will acquire in the WHL expansion draft. He was chosen Wednesday by the Vees.

Danis was one of the top scorers for the Cougars in the playoffs with five goals in their seven-game series loss to the Portland Winterhawks.

He joined the Cats in a trade on Oct. 18, 2023 from the Calgary Hitmen for the Cougars’ fourth-round pick in this week’s Prospects Draft.

The Calgary native played all 68 games this season and had 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points.

In Wednesday’s expansion draft Vees selected one player from 13 WHL teams and came to terms on trades with seven other teams in lieu of expansion draft selections. The Vees will also be allowed to select one player from the Medicine Hat Tigers and one from the Spokane Chiefs after they play the WHL final.

The Prospects Daft first round starts today at 4 p.m. (PT). The Cougars will select 17th in the order. Subsequent rounds of the Prospects Draft will follow the U.S. Priority Draft that starts Thursday at 8 a.m. PT.
