Oval users skating for a cause

The ice is in great shape for skating and everybody is invited to today's season-opening festivities at the Exhibition Park ice oval.

The ice is in great shape for skating and everybody is invited to today's season-opening festivities at the Exhibition Park ice oval.

Now flanked by a new garage to store the Zamboni ice scraper, the oval is entering its fourth season at its present location west of Kin 3 arena.

To mark the occasion, the Outdoor Ice Oval Society is hosting a fundraiser today starting at 12:45 p.m. All day today, half of the proceeds from ice fees and donations collected from skaters will be given to the Salvation Army.

Free hot chocolate will be offered from 1-3 p.m., and there are rumours Santa Claus will be there for a visit with the kids. For a $5 donation, people can have their picture taken of the Ice Oval Zamboni.

The rink is the product of a joint community effort that involves the City of Prince George, service clubs, local businesses and individual volunteers.

If you would like to join Outdoor Oval Society or help out with the rink in any way, call Ice Oval Society president Kathy Lewis at 250-960-6659 (daytime), or 250-564-1552 (evenings).
