During his three-year playing career with the UNBC Northern Timberwolves men's basketball team, Inderbir Gill has had individual awards heaped upon him.

Add one more to the pile.

On Monday, Gill was selected as the male athlete of the year in the B.C. Colleges Athletic Association. He became the winner of the award for the second consecutive year.

Nominees for the award represented all four sports in the BCCAA -- basketball, volleyball, soccer and badminton.

This season, Gill led the BCCAA men's basketball league in overall points scored (383) and was second to Andrew Kaban of the Vancouver Island University Mariners in average points per game (21.28). Gill, a point guard from Spokane, also finished third in the league in average assists per game (5.22).

With Gill running the show from the backcourt, the Timberwolves went 16-2 in the regular season, behind only the Mariners, who posted a 17-1 mark. In the playoff championship game, the T-wolves had to settle for silver after a 96-90 loss to the Mariners. At the conclusion of playoffs, Gill was selected as a tournament all-star.

The Timberwolves still qualified for nationals, which were held in Oshawa, Ont. There, they ran to a 1-2 record, good for a fifth-place finish. Gill was picked as a second-team all-star at nationals. Prior to the start of the tournament, he was also recognized as an All-Canadian and as the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association player of the year.

Gill, who also received an Academic All-Canadian award this year, will graduate from UNBC in May with a degree in finance.

Caitlin Nyhus of the UBC Okanagan Heat women's volleyball team was announced Monday as the BCCAA's female athlete of the year.
