The Barley Boyz of Alberta earned bragging rights as slo-pitch national champions Saturday at the Canada Plus-55 Games in Sherwood Park, Alta.
They defeated the Prince George Deloitte's Old Sticks 15-11 in the men's open division final on Saturday, which means the guys from Prince George are national silver medalists.
"The team played well, but unfortunately the other team was just better than us. But we had a good time and we look forward to the tournament in Langley," said Old Sticks player/coach Larry Mahrer.
The Old Sticks will be back in action on the field at the B.C. Seniors Games in Langley, Sept. 9-14.
In other Prince George results from the Canada Plus-55 Games, the Arc Angels mixed slo-pitch team lost 13-8 to Turner Valley, Alta., in the bronze-medal game.
They played a round-robin tournament against three teams from Alberta, two from Saskatchewan and one from the Yukon.
The Arc Angels posted a 3-3 round-robin record, securing victories against the Yukon (12-0), Regina Capitals (10-6) and Alberta Black & Gold (15-10). Their losses came against Turner Valley (9-7), Regina Rebels (16-10) and Alberta Zone 6 (14-2).
The Arc Angels are also entered in the B.C. Seniors Games.
In cribbage, Amy and Lena Dumoulin finished sixth in the Canada Plus-55 Games tournament with 12 wins and 5,286 points.
