The Northern Capitals already brought home to Prince George one of the most prized trophies in female midget hockey when they captured the Mac's tournament title in January.
This weekend in Coquitlam, the defending provincial champions will try to keep their quest for a national championship alive starting tonight they meet the Greater Vancouver Comets in the opener of the best-of-three B.C Female Midget Triple-A Hockey League championship series.
The Comets (23-4-3) are the league's regular season champions, finishing four points ahead of the second-place Capitals (21-6-3). The Comets and Capitals met six times in the regular season and the Comets won four and lost two of those games.
Two weeks ago, the Comets swept the Vancouver Island Seals in a two-game semifinal series, while the Capitals needed three games to take care of the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers. The Comets and Capitals each drew first-round playoff byes.
Game 2 of the final series will be played Saturday at noon in Coquitlam. A third and deciding game, if needed, is scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m.
