Jujhar Khaira, who spent two seasons with the Prince George Spruce Kings, has been invited to the NHL Scouting Combine.
Khaira, a 17-year-old forward from Surrey, was one of 105 players asked to attend the gathering, May 28 to June 2 in Toronto. The combine gives NHL teams a chance to interview prospects and see them tested in an off-ice setting prior to the draft. This year's draft is June 22-23 in Pittsburgh.
The combine invitations were announced on Thursday.
In the final set of draft rankings, Khaira was listed 74th among North American skaters. In the mid-term rankings, he was 80th.
This past B.C. Hockey League season, Khaira put up 29 goals and 79 points in 54 games. On the Spruce Kings' roster, only league scoring champion Paul De Jersey (41 goals, 98 points) had higher totals than the six-foot-three, 195-pound Khaira.
As a rookie with the Kings in 2010-11, Khaira had 10 goals and 42 points in 58 games.
Khaira has committed to Michigan Tech, an NCAA Division 1 school, for next season.
De Jersey, two years older than Khaira, was No. 98 in the final draft rankings. He moved all the way up from 203rd on the midterm list.
