Baseball players in Prince George will have a place to practice hitting the long ball and throwing curve balls during the winter months starting Nov. 6.
Paul Wilson and Jay Cook both played college ball and are looking to help young ball players fulfill their own dreams by starting XC Baseball school.
"We want to help kids in Prince George develop and learn skills at a young age," said Cook.
Young players will have the opportunity to work on their hitting each weekend, from Nov. 6 until the snow is off the ground, at X-Conditioning and the Northern Sport Centre where Wilson and Cook will help coach them on the mechanics and structure of hitting.
The duo said they'd also like to run clinics on base running, fielding, pitching and catching.
Wilson and Cook said there are many good athletes in Prince George, but it's difficult for them to stay competitive with players in the southern regions of the province due to weather and the travel distance.
The midget triple-A Knights baseball club play between 45 to 50 games each season, said Cook. In comparison, midget teams in Langley play more than 100 games in a season, which allows them to develop at a quicker pace.
Structured hitting lessons for groups of three or private lessons are scheduled for Saturdays between 12:30 and 6 p.m., while Sunday classes will be based on age and skill development level.
Classes are between 45 and 60 minutes and cost between $50 and $100. Sundays there are two sessions each for mosquito, peewee, bantam and midget players, starting from 1 p.m. for the youngest players with the final midget session from 8 to 9 p.m.
