The 18-and-under Kodiaks pounded their way to a silver medal at the club volleyball nationals in Toronto this week.
The local boys team, under the guidance of coach Dan Drezet, finished second in the Division 1, Tier 3 category. Along the way, the squad had to overcome an ankle injury to starting setter Warren Bachand. Trevor Zemlak and David Robertson, who are normally power hitters, took turns filling in for Bachand and the Kodiaks managed to compile a 4-2 match record in his absence.
Several Kodiaks players have already committed to college or university programs for the 2012-13 season. Zemlak, Mitch Duthie and Riley Young will all play for the College of the Rockies Avalanche, based in Cranbrook. Wayne Woyciehouski will be in uniform for the Vancouver Island University Mariners of Nanaimo and Tristen Burridge -- who hails from Fort St. John -- will be a freshman for the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds of Saint John.
The 18-and-under Kodiaks are part of the Prince George Youth Volleyball Club.
