The six-foot middle blocker from Prince George was standing tall atop the medal podium Sunday in Kamloops after her B.C. women's volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit to defeat Manitoba in the gold-medal match, 27-29, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15.
Saskatchewan beat Alberta for bronze, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 27-25.
In the men's tournament, Thompson Rivers University recruit Nic Balazs of Prince George collected nine kill shots and helped the B.C. to a bronze medal after a straight-set 25-12, 25-18, 25-17 win over Saskatchewan. Dan Drezet of Prince George was an assistant coach for the team.
Meanwhile in swimming, Sterling King was the anchor, and he took B.C. right to the top.
The 15-year-old from Prince George brought home gold as B.C.'s fourth swimmer in the men's 4 X 100-metre freestyle relay at the Western Canada Games in Kamloops. The team of King, Edward Zhoa of Vancouver, Ryan Anderson of Delta and Joe Byram of Vernon stopped the clock Friday in 3:26.30, sharing the podium with Alberta (2:27.64) and Manitoba ( 3:32.77).
King helped the same B.C. lineup win gold in the 4X100 medley relay in 3:48.38, ahead of Alberta (3:51.59) and Saskatchewan (3:58.85).
King also won bronze in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:06.58, a Prince George Barracudas Swim Club record, about a second faster than his former best time set in February and also captured bronze in the 100 butterfly (57.19).
Danica Ludlow of Prince George was also in fine form in the Canada Games Aquatic Centre. The 14-year-old Ludlow helped B.C. win silver in the women's 4 X 100m freestyle relay, teaming up with Morgan Mark of Langley,Taylor Padington of Campbell River and Amy Sun of Vancouver.
B.C.'s time of 3:48.84 was just off the winning pace of Team Alberta (3:46.49) Manitoba won bronze (3:57.69).
Ludlow won bronze in the 200 freestyle (2:04.36) and also placed seventh in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:22.99.
Lisa Davison of Prince George shared in a gold medal triumph as manager of the B.C. badminton squad, which defeated Alberta 7-0 in the gold medal team tie Sunday. The 10-member B.C. team -- Clinton Wong (Burnaby), Vanora Lo (Vancouver), Eileen Wong (Vancouver), Candice Ip (Victoria), Wan-Ting Tsai (Surrey ), Benny Lin (Vancouver), Duncan Yao (Richmond), Nathan Choi (Vancouver), Katrina Cheng (Vancouver), and Samuel Dunner (Vancouver) -- won all its team ties handily.
