When the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club put the word out it was looking for a cross-country ski coach and a general manager, the message got through loud and clear to the Moore household in Red Deer.

Graeme Moore applied for the coaching gig and his wife Cara indicated she was interested in becoming the manager of the largest cross-country ski club in British Columbia.

Both got the jobs they were after.

Graeme worked a dual role this past season as head coach of the Red Deer Nordic club team and was also the head coach at Red Deer College. He's been coaching in Alberta since 2005 and in 2013 was named Cross Country Alberta's coach of the year. Over his career he has developed several skiers for provincial teams at the ski national championships and Canada Winter Games.

As a university ski team athlete at Augustana University College in Camrose, Alta., he completed a bachelors degree in physical education. He has an extensive background in outdoor adventure and leadership activities and has been involved in organizing ski camps for Alberta skiers. He's also a certified canoe instructor, journeyman welder and an accomplished Celtic musician who plays mandolin and violin.

Graeme Moore fills the vacancy left when Andrew Casey moved with his doctor wife Erica last summer to Winnipeg. Casey was hired in July 2012 as the first full-time cross-country coach in the club's history. His position was filled by an assortment of volunteers in the 2014-15 season.

Moore's wife Cara holds a bachelor's degree in applied ecotourism and outdoor leadership and has filled administrative roles with nonprofit groups in Red Deer. She has a background as a professional nature interpreter, has retail experience and served as volunteer communication and website co-ordinator for Red Deer Nordic club. Cara is also a certified canoe instructor.

The Moores have two young children, Scott and Piper.

Last season, the host club of the 2015 Canada Winter Games registered more than 1,800 members, the largest of any cross-country ski club in the province.
