For the fourth week this season, Maria Mongomo is a Canada West star.
The 25-year-old UNBC Timberwolves fifth-year point guard was named third star of the week after her efforts led to back-to-back wins last weekend over the Grant MacEwan Griffins.
Mongomo racked up 21 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and five assists in 84-63 win over the Griffins on Friday, then in the rematch Saturday scored 29 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and three steals in 80-62 victory which ran the understaffed T-wolves' winning streak to eight games.
Her 29-point effort gave Mongomo the Canada West scoring title as she became the first UNBC player ever to win a scoring crown.
She also led the conference this season in steals (67) and her 197 rebounds was a career high, the third-highest total in Canada West this season.
The T-wolves, who lost five players off the roster to season-ending injuries, will be in Lethbridge Friday to play the Pronghorns in a single-gamer elimination playoff. The winner advances to a quarterfinal best-of-three series against the regular-season champion Calgary Dinos.
