Moleski, Stealth open NLL season

Jeff Moleski's debut with the Washington Stealth came with a happy ending.

Jeff Moleski's debut with the Washington Stealth came with a happy ending.

The 28-year-old defender from Prince George loves playing in front of National Lacrosse League crowds in Denver and 17,029 fans of the Colorado Mammoth packed into the Pepsi Centre to watch Moleski's Stealth walk off with an 11-10 overtime win.

It was Moleski's first game with Washingon, the defending NLL champions, since he was acquired in an off-season trade for a first-round draft pick in 2011 from the Calgary Roughnecks. Moleski, a defensive specialist, was held without a point. Rhys Duch's power-play goal 9:49 into overtime ended it.

On Sunday, the Stealth returned to Everett to face the Roughnecks and raise the banner from their 2010 season and lost 13-10. Tied 10-10 late in the game, Dane Dobbie spoiled the evening for a crowd of 5,364, beating Washington goalie Matt Roik with the game-winning shot with 5:43 left. Scott Ranger and Mike Carnegie, into an empty net, added to the total.
