Men tee off today at Simon Fraser Open

Cole Shaw will look to defend his 2010 title when the men's Simon Fraser Open tees off today at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

Cole Shaw will look to defend his 2010 title when the men's Simon Fraser Open tees off today at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

Geoff Magrath, head professional at the PGGCC, said the 97 duffers signed up for this year's tournament shouldn't have any issues with the course as it's looking good this season. The golfers hit the links for the first of three rounds this morning at 8 a.m. The event continues Saturday and Sunday.

If Shaw wants to repeat as champion, Magrath said, he'll have to fend off some stiff competition from the likes of Mike Legg and Blair Anderson.

"We have quite a few low handicappers in the tournament," said Magrath.

Legg won the Simon Fraser Open in 1999 and finished two strokes behind Shaw at last year's event, despite a bad back nine holes on the second day of competition.
