McDougall, a D.P. Todd secondary school student, was the senior division champion in the Otway Trail Run, held on Saturday. He finished the six-kilometre course in a time of 25 minutes six seconds, just ahead of College Heights runner Sam Goodrich (25:18). Josh Hewitt of PGSS was third. He stopped the clock in 26:02.

In the senior girls category, Nechako Valley's Hilary Desmarais went basically unchallenged. She needed just 18:15 to reach the finish line of her 4km course. Teammate Angeline Martins (21:17) was second and Emma Wagner (21:24) of Kelly Road was third.

At the junior level, there were no male runners. In the girls group, winner Emma Balazs of Kelly Road clocked in at 18:02, ahead of Quesnel's Katrina MacLean (19:36) and College Heights secondary's Abby Goodrich (20:24). Like the senior girls, Balazs and company ran 4km, and Balazs was actually faster than the senior winner, Desmarais.

Other category winners were: juvenile boys, 4km, Sean Gaiesky (17:39); juvenile girls, 4km, Cierra Verduzco (18:33); bantam boys, 4km, Simon Nemethy (16:47); bantam girls, 4km, Bailey Hardy (19:13); elementary boys, 2km, Nemethy (10:17); and elementary girls, 2km, Kaitlyn Verduzco (11:12).
