Mahood has 'fightful' homecoming planned

Bill Mahood is coming home to end his mixed martial arts career and he'd love to mark the occasion of his last fight in front of a big crowd.

At 43, he's come to realize it's just about time to listen to what his body is telling him. After 17 broken noses, six broken ribs, two elbow surgeries, one knee surgery and a detached retina -- all souvenirs of his love of the fight game -- Mahood will soon put those painful memories behind him, once and for all.

But not before he steps into the CN Centre ring on May 29 for his Prince George ring farewell at Xtreme Fighting Challenge 10 Homecoming.

"It's probably going to be my retirement fight at home, my last fight ever," said Mahood. "I won the King of the Cage title and my body has pretty much had enough.

"The hardest thing is the toll the training takes on your body. I've always said I'd keep doing this until I started losing to guys I shouldn't lose to, and that hasn't happened yet and I don't want it to happen. With all the training you have to do to stay on top of these young guys, all those old injuries really add up."
