Local runner second in Half-Ironman

At the weekend race in and around the Okanagan town, the local triathlete blazed to a second-place finish in the 55 to 60 age category. This marked the eighth year for the event and Forrest became the first Prince George resident to claim a spot on the podium.

Forrest's overall time was five hours 10 minutes 55 seconds. He completed a two-kilometre swim, a 93km bike ride and a 21km run and was one of 43 competitors in the age group. In the overall men's results, Forrest finished 68th in a field of 456.

In May, Forrest was the top finisher in his age bracket at the Honolulu International Triathlon.

Other local athletes in Oliver were Rob Hardy, James Betts, Joanne Morgan, Karen Hall and Leanne Garrison.

Hardy placed fourth among 45- to 49-year-old men, with a time of 5:00:51. He was 44th overall. Betts, meanwhile, was 38th in the 50 to 54 division (6:15:02) and 293rd overall.

For the women, Morgan (6:43:14) took 19th place in the 50 to 54 class and ended up 185th overall. As for Hall (6:57:39), she was 39th in the 45 to 49 age class, 215th overall. Garrison, in the 25 to 29 division, placed 29th. Her time of 7:04:39 was good for a 229th overall finish.
