Jarryd Leung's hockey future has come into focus.
Leung, a forward for the Prince George Spruce Kings last season, has committed to play university hockey with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Leung, who was in his 20-year-old season with the Spruce Kings, will begin his career with the Golden Hawks this fall.
"Jarryd is a very skilled player who thinks the game well," Kings general manager Mike Hawes said in a media release. "He is very dependable in both ends of the ice and was a big piece of our team last season after we acquired him. His skill set and ability to play well in both ends of the ice will allow him to have success at the university level. We wish Jarryd the best of luck with the Golden Hawks."
The Spruce Kings got Leung in an Oct. 28 transaction that saw 20-year-old forward Brent Lashuk head to the Powell River Kings. In an injury-shortened campaign, Leung appeared in 30 games with the Spruce Kings and put up six goals and 29 points. Overall, he had 11 goals and 39 points in 44 contests in 2014-15.
During his B.C. Hockey League career, Leung - a product of Victoria - recorded 47 goals and 109 points in 193 games.
Wilfrid Laurier University is located in Waterloo, Ont. The Golden Hawks compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of Canadian Interuniversity Sport.
