The Prince George Spruce Kings were a minute away from locking up their first point in an opponent’s rink since Jan. 12.

The Merritt Centennials obviously had other ideas.

Luke Phoh scored 19 minutes into the third period that to lift the Cents to a 3-2 victory Saturday in Merritt.

Michael Felsing and Ray Hamlin also scored for Merritt.

Kai Greaves and Kilian McGregor-Bennnett were the Kings’ goalscorers.

Latvian native Karlis Mezsarges stopped 32 of 34 shots for his seventh BCHL win.

Charlie Zolin made 28 saves in the Spruce Kings' nets.

The Cents (19-23-3-1) are on hot streak, winners of five of their last six games, and they took sole possession of sixth place in the Interior Conference.

The Spruce Kings (14-29-3-0, eighth in Interior) are moving in the opposite direction, having lost eight of their last nine games.

They started their weekend Friday in Vernon with a 7-5 loss to the Vipers.

The Kings will be back on the road for games this weekend in Trail and West Kelowna.
