Kenny Lally is looking for a certain kind of boxing gloves.
The kind he can set down on his mantelpiece with a metallic clunk.
The 21-year-old Inner City Boxing Club fighter might find what he's looking for next Saturday in Parksville when he goes after a B.C. Bronze Gloves title.
"The Bronze Gloves are the only BC Gloves Kenny Lally has not won," said Inner City coach Bob Pegues. "Several times Golden Gloves, Silver Gloves, and Emerald Gloves, but never his Bronze Gloves.
"As long as he can find a match other than an exhibition we will change that soon."
Lally, a member of Canada's national A team, has a busy schedule ahead of him as he shoots for a spot on Canada's 2012 Olympic team. He will travel to Puerto Rico in June and stay for about a month, participating in a 10-day national team training camp. A dual meet is on his schedule, as well as the Cheo Aponte Cup elite men's tournament, June 22-28 in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
His 21-year-old Inner City clubmate, Jag Seehra, will leave Prince George June 28 for Panama, where he's entered in the third and final Pan-American Games qualifying tournament.
Pegues is still awaiting an official announcement from Boxing Canada on where his next posting will be. He had been hoping to be sent to Panama as coach of the Canadian team.
"I was told that it was not likely as they are continuing to build the team around the coaches that have been to the other two qualifiers," Pegues said. "They indicated that there was more likelihood that I would take Canada's youth team [16-18 year-olds] to the Isle of Mann for the Youth Commonwealth Games in September."
