Boxer Kenny Lally passed his first test at the Pan Am Games. Now he faces the next one this afternoon.

The 26-year-old Prince George boxer is set to climb into the ring in a 56-kilogram semifinal bout at 4:35 p.m. PDT against Cuba's Andy Cruz in Oshawa, Ont. The winner of that bantamweight match will go for gold on Friday against the winner between Hector Mora Garcias of the Dominican Republic and Francisco Martinez of the United States. They square off in today's other semifinal at 4:50 p.m. PDT.

Lally won his quarter-final match Monday night with a 2-1 decision against Segundo Padilla of Ecuador.

Steve Buffery of the Toronto Sun said Lally "used his reach, superior hand speed and boxing craftmanship" to earn the victory.

Cruz won his match 3-0 against Brazil's Carlos Andre Dos Santos Rocha.

Lally isn't the only Prince George athlete competing today at the Pan Am Games.

At 7:05 a.m. PDT, high jumper Alyx Treasure will take a leap for the podium in a 16-women field.

Meanwhile, Amanda Asay and Team Canada's women's baseball team take to the diamond against Puerto Rico in preliminary play at 12:05 p.m. PDT in Ajax, Ont.
