Kenny Lally's tour of duty as a member of Boxing Canada's A-team is about to take him to unexplored territory.
The 21-year-old Inner City Boxing Club member is booked for a trip next month to Hungary for a national team training camp, then will travel to Baku, Azerbaijan for the world championships. He leaves for Hungary on Sept. 7 and from there will fly to Azerbaijan on Sept. 22.
The world competition is the first qualifying event for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Lally requires a top-eight finish to qualify. Lally is Canada's reigning 52-kilogram amateur champion.
In other local boxing news, Inner City coach Bob Pegues will travel to the Isle of Man, between the coasts of England and Ireland, to coach Canada's team at the Youth Commonwealth Games. He leaves Prince George on Sept. 3. From that tournament, Pegues hopes to join Lally at the world championships
