The Prince George Kodiaks U-18 football team poses for a shot after finishing second Sunday at a 7-on-7 tournament in Calgary.

The Prince George Kodiaks U-18 football team gave it all they had but came up three points shy in the final of a 7-on-7 tournament in Calgary.

The Kodiaks lost 24-21 to the host team in the four-team division on a late interception.

“It was a great game, back and forth,”” said Kodiaks coach Ryan Bellamy. “We threw an interception and that was the difference maker. In 7-on-7 an interception is worth three points and that’s what we lost by. We had about four minutes left and we didn’t end up getting back on offence again.”

Noah Lank, Tamon Piddocke and Carson Briere each caught touchdown passes for Prince George in Sunday’s final, played at Shouldice Park in Calgary. Jerome Erickson was the Kodiaks’ quarterback in the final loss, backed by Quinn Neukomm.

The 16-player U-18 team went 1-1- in the preliminary round.

Prince George also sent two under-16 teams to the no-tackle tournament. The Kodiaks U-16 A team went 2-3 and finished third out of six teams, while the U-16 Kodiaks B team finished sixth at 0-4.

The weekend tournament was organized by former Calgary Stampeder all-star defensive back Keon Raymond. It was his final event in Calgary before he moves to Prince George with his family to become director of football operations for the Kodiaks Football Club.

Raymond will be on hand at Masich Place Stadium this Friday at 11 a.m. for what the Kodiaks are touting as the “biggest announcement in the history of football in northern B.C.”
